Maintaining Motivation to Be Slimmer!

Scenario:

Have you been totally motivated in the past to get to the gym, eat right and do all those wonderful things to "lose weight" only to over a short period of time find yourself slacking in all of these things?
Or...you start to get the results that you want, you are dropping the clothing sizes and you’re feeling great but then all of a sudden you lose your drive and determination to keep up the new behaviours. You start to eat more of those treats that you deprived yourself of having and you stop going to the gym. So what happened?
Theory:

Well firstly notice that I didn't call this technique "motivation to lose weight" instead I labelled it "motivation to be slimmer" and this is really a vital key point in why people don't tend to keep their motivation over a long period of time in achieving a goal that they really want! What happens when you “lose” something? YOU GO LOOKING FOR IT!

See there are only two things that drive us in life; one is pleasure and the other is pain. We strive to feel pleasure and we strive to stay away from and to avoid pain. So when you say that you want to lose weight, you are focussing on not having pain and when you are focussing on what it is specifically that you want such as what jean size would you like to be, well then you are focussing on gaining pleasure.
Both of these focuses, either being driven towards pleasure or away from pain are both really affective at making us move in some direction! They both motivate us to do something! The key is that one of these focuses will consistently move us in the direction of our dreams and the other will have us yo-yo dieting and getting us inconsistent results where our feel good behaviours don’t last!
Important Note: In order to have motivation you need to have more desire and reasons to achieve this goal than you do of the sacrifices you will need to make in order to get it. Your desire needs to overpower the sacrifices and change you need to make! So this technique will have you focussing on gaining more pleasure from achieving your goals so that you maintain your motivation all the way to getting the results and even beyond!
